This week in life group the word "intentional" was brought up. It was a word that was on the heart of my friend this week and now it is a word that is on my heart... and I absolutely LOVE this word. It has such a strong meaning and when lived out is even stronger. The definition of intentional is "something done purposefully that is deliberate and planned." You can be intentional in everything you do. You can be intentional in your words, actions, thoughts, relationships, jobs, etc. Being intentional takes effort, but wow is it worth it.
If we weren't intentional, we wouldn't grow. We would be stuck in the same patterns, which could lead us to distance, unhappiness, and brokenness. It would lead us backwards instead of forwards. Being intentional doesn't only mean being purposeful though, it also means being truthful. It means being truthful with your own heart and communicating that truth intentionally to yourself and others. If we aren't intentional and truthful with our words, actions, and thoughts it could hurt ourselves and others.
Being more intentional does take effort and focus, but it takes these things to really change/build something. And if you are unhappy or unsatisfied and want something to change, I challenge you to pick something in your life to be more intentional about and see where it leads. Because it really is amazing how being more intentional in one aspect of your life can begin to change all aspects of your life.
When there were a lot of changes happening in my life this summer, I made the choice to become more intentional in my relationships with the people I do have in my life and more intentional about building a relationship with God. When I made these choices, it was amazing to me how much of a difference it made. It made me become more content and happy in all aspects of my life and has allowed me to build a stronger foundation in my relationships.
To some, intentional may be just a word, but I pray that it becomes a lifestyle and that people truly begin to live out this word; because when lived out, amazing things happen!
