Why Fit In When You Were Made to Stand Out?!

Have you ever tried fitting in, but it never felt quite right no matter how hard you tried? That's because we were made to stand out, not fit in. As humans, we want so badly to feel included and be liked that we will change who we are to fit in. We will do something that we know isn't right so we can be "cool" in someone else's eyes. We will change our looks to try to uphold this unattainable image of beauty society has created. We will change what makes us unique to be more "normal" because we think "normal" is going to make people like us more. At least this has been a struggle for me throughout my life and the more I have "fit in" the further away I have felt from my true self. And like I said earlier, this is because we were made to stand out, not fit in. God gave us unique qualities to show off to the world, not to hide or change them. He gave us these qualities for a reason and if we embrace our uniqueness and how God made us, His light will shine through us.

This has been proven through the test of time. One story in the Bible that really amazed me was the story of Jesus healing the man that was born blind by spitting in his eyes. Everyone believed he was blind because he sinned or his parents sinned and because of this people didn't understand him and would put him down. Jesus knew this wasn't the case - he was born blind because that was what made him unique and he was made that way for a greater good/purpose.

“It was not because of his sins or his parents’ sins,” Jesus answered. “This happened so the power of God could be seen in him." John 9:3

So he used this uniqueness to shine His works/light through him. He used his blindness to make him see light as a sign that God is the light of the world and that all healing and light come from Him.

So next time you are changing/hiding yourself to fit in, I dare you to take a stand and remember that God made you unique for a reason, and that you were made for a bigger purpose than to just fit in... I dare you to be Just You.

"Life isn't about fitting in. It's about standing out in the rain with all the other misfits and loving them like Jesus" - Jordan Lee
